Isn’t he your father?

Is this the way you repay the Lord,
you foolish and senseless people?
Isn’t he your Father who created you?
Has he not made you and established you? Deut. 32:6

Moses first introduces the concept of God as Father in the Bible here. He uses the familiar father-child relationship to clarify Israel’s relationship to God. He suggests that fathers establish something for their children and through them, and that fathers are owed something back from their children. Figuring out what that “something” looks like can be a challenge for both fathers and children.

Lord, heal relationships between fathers and children this weekend.
