Message over motive

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19

Sometimes when another person is speaking we are busy planning what we’re going to say next instead of listening. Sometimes we question their motives rather than extending the benefit of the doubt. This is especially true when we are angry, defensive, or anxious to get our way or make our point. Really listening objectively to the message is a healthy step toward reconciling conflict and communicating with love and grace.

Lord, help me listen faster than I speak.
