You have heard the law that says “love your neighbor,” but I say love your enemies!…In that way you will be acting as true children of you Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good… If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? But you are to be perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:44-48

Jesus seems to be connecting “perfection” with how we love and who we love. What would happen if we directed any perfectionistic compulsions toward making each person we encounter feel loved? Our lives would get a lot messier, and maybe even look less “perfect,” but our hearts might look a lot more like His.

Lord, lead me to love like You do.
