Today is the first day of try-hard season

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Eph. 2:9

Practicing Lent traditions can be meaningful but it can also become a season of try-hard self-sufficiency. Can giving up chocolate or cigarettes for a few weeks add to the finished work of Christ on the cross? What manifestations of His love and grace might emerge through us if we stopped focusing so much time and effort on fixing ourselves? Enjoying His beauty, grace, and goodness arouses the beauty, grace, and goodness He has already created within us through Christ.

Lord, show me how to respond to You and those around me because of Who You have made me.
