Long awaited Jesus

I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations [what is desired; the One who is desired] shall come and I will fill this house with glory.  Haggai 2:6b-7

It’s interesting that long before Christ came to earth there were many stories in many different cultures about saviors and heroes with special circumstances of birth. While some might use these stories to discount Christ, perhaps instead these stories reflect an ancient awareness and longing for Someone to shake up the future offered by fate or nature or human institutions and to redeem humankind to the peace, glory, and joy we were created to enjoy. In one of his Christmas hymns Charles Wesley expressed it like this: “O Come thou long awaited Jesus…hope of all the earth thou art, dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.”

Jesus be present and real to hoping, longing hearts in every nation.
