A new people group

Once you were not a people but now you are a people; once you had not received rachamim (compassion, mercy, empathy, pity) but now you have received rachamim. I Pet. 2:10

Rachamim is an emotionally charged word which shares it’s root with rachem (womb) to convey the protective feelings of a parent for a helpless unborn child. Redemption through Christ made us all unborn children in a newly extended family, a newly formed people group whose lifeblood is grace. While we are still in the spiritual womb, “yet sinners,” before any of us were born again, our Heavenly Father extended His love and compassion to us.

Lord, teach me to respond with rachamim to all Your children, those who have been born again and those who are still unborn.
