“How to be perfect” is click-bait fodder

“How to be perfect” is click-bait fodder. The quest for perfection creates a laundry list of “have to” and “must do.” The quest for perfection results in a performance-based lifestyle. Jesus challenged this thinking in the relationships He formed, and the way He led, and the things He said. Christ is perfect and it is through being in His perfection that we are perfect. Perfection is a by-product of His grace and love.

That doesn’t mean we should never make an effort. Frequently our Spirit led responses to love and grace result in getting off our butts and doing something. But those responses do not come from a sense of performance-based fear and obligation but from a relationship-based lifestyle rooted in His love and grace.

Lord, take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
