From glory to glory

January 11th, 2018 by Maureen

We may think of glory as the state of love, joy, and peace that exists in God, among Father, Son, and Spirit and among those who dwell exclusively in the realm of heaven. We may think of glory is also recognition and praise of God’s power and perfection; or as awe and enjoyment in the works that evidence God’s goodness, creativity, and provision.

We are invited into many glories because we aware that our lives are in Christ. We are invited to discover the glory
of His love, joy, and peace as our own,
of enjoying and receiving the works of His hands,
of developing, enjoying, and contributing the gifts and talents He’s bestowed upon us,
of being transformed by His own glory.

Lord help me live in awareness of glory to glory that is there in my life in You.

The premises of grace

November 8th, 2017 by Maureen

Give thanks to the Lord because He is good and His love endures forever. 1 Chr. 16:34

God’s goodness and love are reasons to be thankful. These aspects of His nature are the premises of grace. God isn’t waiting for us to mess up so He can punish us. He doesn’t abandon us when we mess up. He doesn’t cause evil. None of this can be inferred if this premise are true. If God is good and God loves then when something bad happens (especially if it was our bad) we can conclude that His response is redemptive and restorative. This is reason to give thanks.

Lord, thank You for being the way that You are.

Don’t choose the box

May 9th, 2017 by Maureen

God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. I Cor. 12:6

Does an infinite God with infinite resources and infinite creativity manifest the same thing the same way in every individual’s life? In considering the infinite nature of God it is reasonable to assume that even the “width, depth, breadth, height” of God’s love might only express the human limits of experience.  If we consider our own personal experiences and perceptions to be the only possible model for everyone else, it’s likely we are creating a rigid, static box that can only accommodate very limited views and experiences with God. Will He be there with us in the box? Absolutely. But why limit our experiences with God, our potential for growth, and our relationships with others by staying in the box?

Thank you Lord for all that You are in all the people and all the ways I have yet to encounter You.

How can we be in His house when we are His house?

June 26th, 2016 by Maureen

Lord made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround him; strength and joy fill his dwelling. I Chronicles 16:26b-27 Christ makes His home in our hearts. Eph. 3:17

That we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever yet God makes His home in our hearts right now is a spiritual paradox. We don’t fully understand how that works, and we don’t have to understand it to enjoy it. Our whole existence is permeated with the constant presence of the amazing and awesome God. The more aware we are of God dwelling in us and we in Him, the more frequently we experience moments of full joy and captivating wonder, astounding insight and breathtaking love.

Lord, thank you for making me part of all You inhabit.
