Grace and mercy and peace will be with us from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ the Son of the Father, in truth and in love. 2 Jn. 1:

How many abstract concepts can a writer put in one sentence? Grace, mercy, peace, the Father, Jesus, truth, love…only Jesus is a tangible historical figure and His identity as God is debated by many. Humans attempt to define and measure evidence of these abstract ideas, and sometimes try to evaluate personal faith based on these definitions and measures. Faith never can come down to a set of measurable behaviors or to concrete archaeological evidence. Love, truth, peace, mercy, and grace in our experiences and relationships encompass more than events and results. Jesus came to make relationship with our Father more than meeting expectations or adhering to tenets.

Lord, help us be as aware of Your presence.

Self-sufficient is insufficient

Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up, in good time. I Pet. 5:6

Experiencing unexpected setbacks, several dropped balls and a couple of abject failures in one of our projects is humbling. Our confidence and competence does not determine our value as human beings. We live and move and have our beings from the grace of His hand anyway, so when we what we thought we had all together starts falling apart, we might as well be honest. There is no shame in needing God’s help

Lord, I don’t want to do it without Your help.

More than beautiful words

February 21st, 2013 by Maureen

Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son, in truth and love. 2 Jn. 1:3 (ESV)

Grace, mercy, peace, truth, love are beautiful words. Just saying them is calming. Living them is a bit more challenging. What if we desired grace, mercy, peace, truth, and love for each other as much as we desire them for ourselves? What if our words, our actions, and our attitudes reflected these ideas?

Lord, make grace, mercy, peace, truth, and love more than beautiful words in my life.

What are you packing?

Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love. 2 Jn. 1:3

It might be easier to live in truth and love if there were no conflict or  trouble. It might be easier to enter into dealings with other people packing grace, mercy, and peace if some of them weren’t packing pride, anger, greed, and selfish agendas. This verse isn’t for sissies.

Lord, let Your grace, mercy, peace, truth, and love prevail in my heart, my words, and my decisions no matter what I may face that opposes them.
