Mercy!

July 18th, 2016 by Maureen

For your own sake, Lord, smile on Your desolate sanctuary…See how your city—the city that bears your name—lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy. Dan 9:17-18

Mercy is just that, Mercy. Not bestowed because we earn it. God’s decision to restore our desolate souls even after we’ve let the garden He created in us become a desert, is mercy. Right now so many people are responding to one another from places of fear, anger, hate and desolation. We can choose to respond from the place of grace and mercy He has chosen to give us.

Lord, from individual relationships to the “us” and “them” animosity between different groups of people, to warring nations, please fix the mess we’ve made out of Your gift of life.

Continuous revelation

January 22nd, 2016 by Maureen

He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light. Daniel 2:22

There is a lot we don’t know and a lot we don’t understand about what we do know. God is constantly revealing more of Himself and His creation to those who seek answers and truths, for example, scientists may have found a new planet. Our Father loves that we explore His creation and seek His counsel. He’s has the information and the wisdom that can satisfy our longing for discovery and adventure,  or help us  work through our doubts and fears, and lead us to make enlightened choices. And He is also there to guide us when we have to act without all the information.

Lord, please help me find answers for the questions I ask and reveal those deep and mysterious ideas that I haven’t even thought to wonder about but actually need to know.

Iced from the start

January 24th, 2014 by Maureen

He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; Dan. 2:21

There is nothing like driving on ice to instill a little humility and respect for forces we can’t control. Even the best drivers can’t control the surface of the road or the decisions of other drivers. When we understand that we can begin to make better decisions about driving on ice, and a lot of other things too. If we think we can control everything, we’re iced from the start.

Lord, I know I can’t control everything…I trust You with that.

Help is on the way

May 1st, 2012 by Maureen

Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. Dan. 10:12

To pray and not get an immediate answer is no indication that God doesn’t care. A delay does not mean that God hasn’t heard. Every cry of every heart is on God’s radar. Help is on the way.

Lord, forgive my restless, impatient heart.

City in ruins

For your own sake, Lord, smile on Your desolate sanctuary…See how your city—the city that bears your name—lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy. Dan 9:17-18

“I don’t deserve this….” or “fixing this will make You (God) look better” is probably not the best way to start a cry for help. Mercy is just that, God’s decision to restore our desolate souls even after we’ve let the garden He created in us become a desert.

Lord, please fix the mess I’ve made because of Your mercy.
