Some things you replace instead of recycle

July 21st, 2014 by Maureen

Tell the people, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will put an end to this proverb, and you will soon stop quoting it.’ Now give them this new proverb to replace the old one: ‘The time has come for every prophecy to be fulfilled!’ Eze. 12:22-23

How many old ideas and worn out contexts do we bring into our relationships with God? How much that needs replacing do we try to recycle into the new life He gives us? 400 years passed with no word and then Jesus showed up. Most didn’t recognize Him as the fulfillment of prophecy. Many who recognized Him as Messiah still wanted to follow Him in the context of the old law rather than the new.

Lord, replace what I’ve been recycling with what You really want me to have.

Time for hope

“Son of man, you’ve heard that proverb they quote in Israel: ‘Time passes, and prophecies come to nothing.’ Tell the people, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will put an end to this proverb, and you will soon stop quoting it.’ Now give them this new proverb to replace the old one: ‘The time has come for every prophecy to be fulfilled!’ Eze. 12:22-23

God doesn’t give dreams and visions He cannot fulfill. He doesn’t make promises He won’t keep. Hold out hope. Live like God means what He says. Dare to hope.

Lord, You are my hope all the time.

Just roll with it

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I went in bitterness and turmoil, but the Lord’s hold on me was strong. Eze. 3:14

Just when we’re feeling comfortable and in control the direction of our lives can change abruptly and we may find ourselves on an unknown and unpredictable path. Often our initial reaction is resistance to change even when we’re fairly certain God is behind it. God lovingly directs our paths and calls us to His purposes even when we don’t go graciously.

Lord, give me the grace and skills I need to roll with the changes.
