Holiday stretch

November 26th, 2013 by Maureen

Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength! Neh. 8:10

Loss of a loved one, unpleasant memories, loneliness, or other issues can cast shadows on the holidays.  Feasting and celebration can seem like a stretch. Joy comes as we shift our focus away from self and toward thanking God and sharing what we have with others.

Lord, bring joy and celebration to heavy hearts.

Oh joy

The joy of the Lord is my strength. Neh. 8:10

The Lord’s joy comes from a source other than ourselves. We can’t make ourselves feel joyful; but our response to the Lord’s loving and eternal perspective on our circumstances, surroundings, and feelings can result in deep-seated joy. This kind of joy makes us stronger.

Lord, fill me with your powerful joy.
