What was He thinking?

He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. Titus 2:14

Why would God Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, take on the frailty and limitations of human flesh and  submit to suffering and death? While His “why’s” are often beyond our comprehension, His “what’s,” His statement of purpose, seems to focus on the “what’s” Christ came to accomplish.

Lord, thanks for accomplishing for me what I could not accomplish for myself. Help me to do the good You have in mind for me to do.

Time to change the filter

Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted. Titus 1:15

Perspective is a huge part of how we process what we encounter on life’s journey. Our own particular set of disappointments, prejudices and temptations gunk up the filter on our reactions and attitudes. Jesus replaces the filter on our hearts so that we are free to process life fearlessly, joyfully and wisely.

Jesus, give me a pure heart.

Deliver the good

He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. Titus 2:14

Jesus entered His mission with a vision for what His redeemed people would be like. The redeemed would be free and clean. They wouldn’t be satisfied with avoiding evil and staying out of trouble but would go out looking for good to do.

Lord deliver me from evil and deliver me to the good I can to do today.
